POWER-GEN Middle East

Welcome from Ministry of Energy
 & Industry

From His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy & Industry

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation is delighted to host, for the first time in Qatar, the POWER-GEN Middle East Conference and Exhibition, which will take place at the Qatar Exhibition Centre between 4 and 6 October 2010.

On this occasion I would like to commend the important role of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation and Qatar Electricity Water Company in addition to all energy companies in Qatar for their support to the national economy, guided by the wise vision of H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani the Emir of the state of Qatar and H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, the Heir Apparent.

It is anticipated that Qatar will invest more than $20 billion in the coming decade in the field of power generation and water desalination, in addition to expanding transmission and distribution of electricity and the water network. It will also consider creating alternatives to power and water desalination plants operated by oil and gas and building other power plants using solar and nuclear energy.

All such options are being studied to meet increased future demand of power and water in Qatar. POWER-GEN Middle East provides the strategic basis, the issues and the technical solutions to meet our power and water demands. It also provides an annual platform that gathers decision makers in the electricity and water field, and the opportunity to promote the latest technologies, products and services available. It is the perfect industry meeting place for industrialists and other specialists interested in the industrial field in the Middle East.

Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation welcomes all the delegates and participants in POWER-GEN Middle East, and looks forward to meeting you in Doha from 4 to 6 October 2010.

Welcome from Qatar General Electricity & Water (Kahramaa)

I would like to express my pleasure that the State of Qatar is hosting POWER-GEN Middle East Conference 2010 and its accompanied activities for the first time in Doha since its establishment in 2000. This reflects the utmost confidence in Qatar’s economy and stability; and trust of what is reached in power generation, transmission and distribution sectors.

This year’s conference is held under the slogan of: “New Solutions for Power generation and Water production Challenges”, which is strategic for the development of Electricity and Water Sectors. The conference comes as a great opportunity for all participants to benefit through exchanging experiences, experiments and knowledge.

The conference assembles delegates representing more than 80 international corporations representing 30 countries from the Middle East and other parts of the world. This makes the conference one of the biggest in the world in its domain of business and activities.

As such, I take this opportunity to announce that Kahramaa, through the continuous directives and support of H. E. Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Energy & Industry Mr. Abdulla Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, has succeeded in execution of vital and important projects in both electricity and water sectors. This was only achieved during the past few years so as to meet the fast growth and development in the state and expanding demand for these necessary services.

In fact, Qatar is progressively increasing its investment in infrastructure projects in different fields of Electricity and Water with a total expected costs of $20 billion in the coming 10 years.

As part of our major objectives, Kahramaa is strategically planning to provide our customers with high quality electricity and water services whilst creating value for our shareholders in accordance with international standards for Safety and Environment. As a result, Qatar is now capable of transmitting 750 MW to other GCC countries through the GCC Interconnection Power Grid.

At the end, once again I express my pleasure with POWER-GEN Middle East 2010 and welcome all delegates, specialists and all other participants to this conference and its accompanied activities.

Wishing you all the success and good luck.

Eng. Essa Hilal Al-Kuwari, Managing Director, Kahramaa
