OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY

The 11th annual POWER-GEN Middle East conference and exhibition was held under the Patronage of His Excellency. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and supported by Platinum Sponsor, Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC), Silver Sponsor, Alstom as well as KAHRAMAA, Official Airline Partner, Qatar Airways and Supporting Associations, Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Qatar Businessmen Association, Turkish Businessmen Association-Qatar in affiliation with Qatar University.

The event was held from 4-6 February 2013 at Qatar National Convention Centre along with the 2nd annual WaterWorld Middle East conference and exhibition as a co-located annual event.

POWER-GEN Middle East, was officially opened by the Minister of Industry and Energy, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada on Monday 4 February 2013.

The opening address featured keynote speakers:

Following the Opening Keynote Speeches, His Excellency officiated the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to formally open the conference and exhibition and embarked on an extensive tour of the exhibition floor.

GALA DINNER

The POWER-GEN Middle East 2013 Gala Dinner was held at the Ritz Carlton Doha on Tuesday 5 February 2013.

The event was attended by more than 100 distinguished guests including distinguished guests, sponsors and exhibitors.

The Gala Dinner provided an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the support of Platinum Sponsor Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) as well as speakers, exhibitors and the POWER-GEN Middle East committee members plus other participants and supporters of the event.

CLOSING RECEPTION

The Closing Reception sponsored by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) held on the exhibition floor was well attended by delegates, visitors and exhibitors of POWER-GEN Middle East and co-located WaterWorld Midldle East 2013.

The Closing Reception provided the perfect opportunity for all attendees to learn about other companies, discuss industry news and developments, explore important business opportunities and establish long-term relationships with fellow professionals in preparation for the 2014 event in Abu Dhabi.

TECHNICALTOURS

Two technical tours took place in the immediate lead up to the official opening. These tours were of Ras Abu Fontas, one of Qatar's largest power and desalination plants and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP). Both tours proved very popular with a good turn out of industry professionals.

The technical tours included:

• fully guided tours of the Ras Abu Fontas plant including some of the principle power and water units and communication centre and QSTP's cutting-edge research facilities
  
• informative presentations by executive management about the overall facilities and various technologies employed
