POWER-GEN Middle East 2012 Highlights

OFFICIAL OPENING CEREMONY

The 10th annual POWER-GEN Middle East and inaugural WaterWorld Middle East conference and exhibition was held under the Patronage of His Excellency. Dr. Mohammed bin 
Saleh Al-Sada,
Minister of Energy and Industry and supported by Partner, KAHRAMAA and Co-Host & Platinum Sponsor, Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC).

The event was held from 6-8 February 2012 at the new Qatar National Convention Centre which is set to become the region's leading venue.

POWER-GEN Middle East 2012 along with co-located WaterWorld Middle East, was officially opened by the Minister of Industry and Energy, H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada on Monday 6 February 2012.

The opening address featured keynote speakers:

  • H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Qatar
  • H.E. Eng. Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President, KAHRAMAA, Qatar
  • Mr. Fahad Hamad Al-Mohannadi, General Manager, Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC), Qatar
  • Mr. Timm Dower, Conference Director, WaterWorld Middle East, PennWell Corporation, UK
  • Mr. Glenn.Ensor, Director of International Events, PennWell Corporation, UK

Following the Opening Keynote Speeches, His Excellency officiated the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to formally open the conference and exhibition and embarked on an extensive tour of the exhibition floor.

GALA DINNER

The POWER-GEN Middle East 2012 Gala Dinner was held at the Ritz Carlton Doha on Tuesday 5 February 2012.

The event was attended by more than 250 distinguished guests including His Excellency. Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, sponsors and VIPs including Ambassadors from five Embassies based in Doha, Qatar.

The Gala Dinner provided an opportunity to acknowledge and thank the support of partner KAHRAMAA, Co-Host and Platinum Sponsor Qatar Electricity & Water Company (QEWC) as well as speakers, exhibitors and the POWER-GEN Middle East committee members plus other participants and supporters of the event.

NETWORKING RECEPTIONS

Networking Receptions sponsored by Warsila and Xylem were well attended by visitors and delegates of POWER-GEN Middle East and co-located WaterWorld Midldle East 2012.

These networking receptions provided the perfect opportunity for visitors and delegates to learn about other companies, discuss industry news and developments, explore important business opportunities and establsih long-term relationships with felllow professionals.

TECHNICAL TOUR

The technical tour of Ras Abu Fontas, Qatar's largest power and desalination plant proved very popular with a full capacity attendance of 40 industry professionals.

The technical power and water plant tour included:

  • a full guided tour of the plant including some of the principle power and water units
  • informative presentations by plant management about the overall facility and various technologies employed
